Who and Where to Reach Out

By Deacon John Bundra

Last week I know I wrote that if you need help; reach out.  Where do I reach?  If you wanted to talk with a priest or deacon, you can be assured that the conversation will be kept confidential if you want it to be.   While most of us are not trained counselors it sometimes just helps to talk with someone that is not family or friend.

If you are looking for something more specific go to:

www.MyConnectionNEW.org which is kind of a one stop shop for mental health and substance abuse information and resources in Brown, Outagamie, Calumet, and Winnebago counties.

Be sure to take advantage of all the things available to you on this website such as:

  • ·Emergency Numbers and Hotlines. Click on the purple button that says “Click Here for Help” for a list of local emergency phone numbers.

  • Free, Anonymous Mental Health Screenings. The site provides screenings for both adults and youth to help identify if seeking professional help is appropriate. Click on “Get a Check Up from the Neck Up” and take a screening.

  • Mental Health Services. Provides a comprehensive, easy-to-use directory of resources and services, searchable by zip code, for behavioral health, crisis services, and substance abuse. You will find contact information, address, areas served, and hours, for each listed service.

  • Support and Advocacy. Local, state and national links to behavioral health support groups and organizations that provide assistance, information and advocacy.

  • Medications, Library and more than 30,000 articles, fact sheets and reports to research, as well as descriptions of prescription and non-prescription medications for all health conditions. Browse current legislation on behavioral health topics as well as local, state and national websites about government programs and non-profit organizations that specialize in behavioral health issues.

  • Mental health is not just diagnosed disorders. It includes, high stress, anxiety, fear, feelings of hopelessness, anger and feeling overwhelmed.

Control what you can control (reach out if you need to) and put your trust in God.
