Blessing of Candles and Throats

The Church celebrates the feast of the Presentation of the Lord on February 2nd which occurs forty days after the birth of Jesus and is also known as Candlemas day. Since the middle of the fifth century the Church has blessed candles on this day. We will bless candles at all the Masses on the weekend of February 6 & 7.  Small candles will be given out after Mass, but everyone is invited to bring their own candles, used for personal prayer and devotion, to be blessed. We will bless throats after the 8:00am Mass February 3 and after Masses on the weekend of February 6 and 7 in honor of the feast of St. Blaise (February 3).
